As in regions of frequent storminess, such as Scotland and Iceland.

A study suggests:

Likely, Epidemiological studies suggest that lower vitamin-D {25(OH) D} status associates with a higher risk for osteoporosis fractures. Studies have reported that 25(OH) D deficiency is an unrecognized entity endemic in both children and adults in the United States. Once it was thought that vitamin D deficiency was a rarity in south Asia.

Furthermore, multiple studies in different countries showed a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in an Asian population. Little is known about the status of 25(OH) D in the local population. There are no published data regarding the prevalence of vitamin D insufficiency in the healthy adult local population. Because of the health risks associated with low levels of vitamin D, the primary objective of this study was to test the hypothesis that vitamin D deficiency (250HD level, <20 ng/mL)19-22 was prevalent among the apparently healthy asymptomatic adult population.
